About this place
Tucked into a quiet residential pocket of Yanagihara in Adachi Ward, Kenryu operates as a down-to-earth machi-chuka—a neighborhood Chinese diner where anyone can drop in for an effortless, hearty meal. It draws a steady stream of diners across lunch and dinner, making it an easy stop for solo guests looking for substantial set meals or generous bowls of noodles.
Opening the menu, attention naturally drifts to the teishoku and combo section, headlined by the half fried rice and ramen set (Han Chahan Ramen). The ramen follows an endearing old-school style, topped with rolled pork belly chashu, bamboo shoots, wakame seaweed, and sliced naruto fish cake, all paired with medium-thick noodles that catch the rich, full-bodied broth well. Alongside it, the half fried rice features the classic medley of egg, diced pork chashu, naruto, and scallions, but distinguishes itself with shredded cabbage cooked in and a bright topping of edamame. Its moist, fragrant finish makes a satisfying foil to the ramen broth. Other teishoku options include a curry-and-ramen pairing, a stir-fried vegetable set (Yasai Itame Teishoku), and a liver and garlic chive set (Nira Reba Itame Teishoku).
Among noodle dishes, the comforting Niku Soba and vegetable-laden Tanmen are popular picks, complemented by an extensive selection of à la carte classics such as happosai, mapo tofu, sweet-and-sour pork, and shrimp specialties. Diners often order a side of pan-fried gyoza, prized for their pleasing wrapper texture, or linger over an evening drink—sipping beer or aged Chinese Shaoxing wine while sharing cold appetizers like steamed chicken or century egg.
Run by a genial master and proprietress, the dining room also includes raised tatami seating where guests can unwind with attentive table service. With modern conveniences like PayPay accepted, Kenryu remains a dependable neighborhood anchor for everyday lunches or an unhurried post-work drink.
